The central design elements depict the tiara's characteristic interlocking knot and arch motifs, rendered in meticulous engraved relief. Seven diamonds are set into the design to add authentic brilliance, while three natural freshwater pearls reproduce the pendant pearl drops that are a hallmark of the original piece. Selective platinum plating enhances specific areas of the composition, accentuating the lustrous quality of the metalwork. The legend CANADA 250 DOLLARS appears within the field, completing the reverse design. |

The Lover's Knot Tiara has a complicated provenance: originally commissioned by Queen Mary in 1914, it passed to Princess Diana, fell out of use after her death in 1997, and was retrieved from storage by Catherine, Princess of Wales, around 2015. The RCM's decision to dedicate a high-relief .9999 fine gold coin to it reflects the tiara's renewed public profile in the years immediately preceding this issue.
At 60 grams in four-nines gold, this is a bullion-adjacent collector piece rather than a circulation proposal — Canada's $250 face value denomination exists purely as a legal fiction for commemorative purposes.
