This coin recreates, at exact weight and fineness, a 100-ducat presentation piece struck for Wenceslaus IV of Bohemia in the late 14th century — a format used not as circulating currency but as dynastic gifts and diplomatic instruments. The originals were almost certainly produced at the Prague or Kutná Hora mint, the latter having supplied much of Bohemia's silver wealth during the reign. Wenceslaus, Holy Roman Emperor from 1376 and King of Bohemia until his death in 1419, was deposed from the imperial throne in 1400, partly due to his chronic inability to manage the fractious German princes.
Niue's licensing arrangement with the Czech Mint has produced a consistent line of these large-format historicals since the early 2010s.
