Three-quarter bust portrait of Vasily Semyonovich Chochiev in Soviet military uniform, adorned with multiple medals and orders, occupying the right portion of the field. To the left, a stylized composition features a Hero of the Soviet Union Gold Star medal suspended above a five-pointed star enclosing a silhouette of a warplane, set against diagonal speed lines evoking aerial combat. The dates 1917 and 1947, denoting the subject's birth and death years, arc across the upper field. The honoree's name ЧОЧИЕВ ВАСИЛИЙ СЕМЁНОВИЧ is inscribed in Cyrillic along the right and lower margins of the field against a mirror-polished proof background. |

South Ossetia has no internationally recognized central bank in any functional sense — the "National Bank of South Ossetia" is a state institution of a territory recognized by only a handful of UN member states, Russia chief among them. These coins are not legal tender in any currency zone with meaningful circulation, and are produced explicitly for the numismatic export market. Vasily Chochiev was a prominent Ossetian political figure involved in the independence negotiations of the early 1990s, though attributing specific policy outcomes to him remains contested in the historical literature.
