The inscription 'GREEK TRIREME' arcs above the colorized central device within an inner beaded border. The legend 'A HISTORY OF WORLD SHIPPING' arcs around the upper periphery, while '500 BC' appears below the ship and the date '1998' is inscribed along the lower rim, flanked by decorative pellets. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
Somalia's coinage in the late 1990s was largely a fiction of statehood — the central government had collapsed in 1991 and no functioning monetary authority existed. These pieces were produced for the international collector market, not Somali commerce, a practice that continued for years under the nominal authority of whatever transitional body could license a foreign mint to strike in the country's name.
KM#52 is part of a broader series exploiting ancient seafaring themes with no connection to Somali history.
