Reverse description The reverse commemorates the fall of the Berlin Wall in November 1989. The central field depicts a dramatic scene of jubilant crowds gathered before the breached Wall, with a figure raising a pickaxe atop the broken structure at left and the Brandenburg Gate visible at right, illuminated by a radiant sunburst rising behind it. Two doves in flight appear above in the upper field. A laurel wreath frames the lower portion of the design, with BERLIN inscribed prominently in the lower central field. The trilingual legend FREEDOM·UNITY·HOPE / FREIHEIT·EINHEIT·HOFFNUNG arcs along the upper border, and LIBERTE·UNITE·ESPERANCE / NOVEMBER·1989 along the lower border.
