Estonia's first coinage series was introduced after the country secured its independence through the 1920 Treaty of Tartu with Soviet Russia. The 25 senti was part of that foundational series, though production was intermittent — this 1928 issue came nearly a decade into the republic's existence, by which point the Estonian kroon system had stabilized enough to warrant continued small-denomination output.
Soviet occupation in 1940 ended the entire coinage program abruptly, making interwar Estonian coins survivors of a monetary system that existed for barely two decades.
