25 Sen - Agong XII Crested Wood Partridge

Part of Bank Negara's wildlife conservation series, this issue appeared during the reign of Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin, the 13th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, who ascended in late 2001. Nordic Gold — the same copper-aluminum-zinc-tin alloy used in Euro 10, 20, and 50 cent coins — was adopted for this series largely because it resists corrosion in Malaysia's humid tropical climate while maintaining a stable gold-like appearance without the cost implications of brass.

The Crested Wood Partridge, native to lowland forests of the Malay Peninsula and Borneo, was already under pressure from deforestation by the time this coin circulated.
