| Obverse description | The national coat of arms of the Republic of Maldives occupies the central field, featuring a crescent and five-pointed star flanked by two national flags on poles, surmounted by a coconut palm tree. Below the central device, a ribbon banner bears an Arabic inscription. The circular legend REPUBLIC OF MALDIVES arcs along the upper periphery in Latin lettering, while the dual date ١٣٩٨ - 1978 (AH 1398 / AD 1978) is inscribed in Arabic-Indic and Western numerals along the lower periphery.
