Beschrijving keerzijde The central field depicts a dramatic naval battle scene showing sailing warships during the storming of the Corfu fortress in 1799, rendered with fine detail of rigging, sails, and cannon fire. To the upper left, a portrait medallion of Admiral Fyodor Fyodorovich Ushakov is shown in profile, with the semicircular inscription 'Ф.Ф.УШАКОВ' immediately below it. Along the upper rim, on a ribbon banner, the legend '300-ЛЕТИЕ РОССИЙСКОГО ФЛОТА' (The 300th Anniversary of the Russian Fleet) is inscribed. Along the lower rim the inscription 'ШТУРМ КРЕПОСТИ КОРФУ · 1799 г.' (The Storming of the Corfu Fortress, 1799) completes the design. The composition commemorates the tricentenary of the Russian Navy and one of its most celebrated early victories.

Aanvullende informatie

This coin commemorates the 1799 assault on the island of Corfu, where a combined Russo-Ottoman fleet under Admiral Fyodor Ushakov drove out the French garrison — one of the stranger military alliances of the Napoleonic period. The victory was strategically significant enough that Suvorov reportedly declared Ushakov a marshal of the sea, and the operation became a cornerstone of Ushakov's eventual canonization by the Russian Orthodox Church in 2001.

The 1996 Russian commemorative silver program leaned heavily on imperial military anniversaries, partly as a deliberate cultural project during a period of acute national identity crisis following Soviet dissolution.
