Reverse description A detailed panoramic view of the architectural ensemble of the Pskov-Pechersky Holy Monastery of the Assumption fills the central field, depicting the monastery's towers, churches, and walls set within a stylised landscape of rolling hills covered with vegetation rendered in high relief. Framing the architectural scene is an ornamental border of stylised foliate hills. A three-line inscription in Cyrillic occupies the central portion of the composition: «ПСКОВО-ПЕЧЕРСКИЙ СВЯТО-УСПЕНСКИЙ МОНАСТЫРЬ» (The Pskov-Pechersky Holy Monastery of the Assumption). To the right of the inscription, the founding century «XVв.» (15th century) is indicated.

Additional information

The Pskov-Pechersky Monastery was founded in the 1470s within a natural cave system whose resident monks refused to abandon it despite repeated orders from Moscow ecclesiastical authorities — the community's stubborn continuity through tsarist suppression, Swedish invasion, and Soviet anti-religious campaigns makes it one of the few Russian monasteries never formally closed. It remained active through the entire Soviet period, partly because the surrounding territory was briefly incorporated into Estonia between the wars, which complicated Kremlin jurisdiction long enough for the monastic community to outlast the pressure.

This coin is part of the Bank of Russia's ongoing series commemorating Russian Orthodox architectural monuments, struck in limited proof quantities at the Moscow Mint.
