Part of Russia's first post-Soviet precious metal commemorative program, this issue was struck at the Moscow Mint in 1993 as the newly reconstituted Bank of Russia moved to establish hard-currency collectibles as a source of foreign exchange. The series was aimed squarely at Western buyers, priced in dollars and distributed through international numismatic dealers rather than domestic channels.
Mintage was capped at 1,500 pieces worldwide.
