Part of the Royal Mint's ongoing prehistoric Britain series, this issue draws on fossil evidence that Stegosaurus — long assumed an exclusively North American genus — did in fact roam what is now the United Kingdom during the Late Jurassic. The 2023 discovery of a remarkably complete specimen at a Somerset quarry, nicknamed "Sophie's cousin" by paleontologists, directly informed the series and gave the Royal Mint its scientific justification for the subject.
