25 Pounds 15th Hijrah Century, Brass Piedfort

Issued to mark the start of the 15th Islamic century — 1400 AH fell in November 1979 — this piedfort was struck as a presentation piece rather than for any circulation purpose. Sudan's economy at that point was already under serious strain, with foreign debt mounting and the Nimeiry government lurching between Arab nationalist and Islamist policy positions; the commemorative program was partly a diplomatic gesture toward Gulf state donors.

Piedforts of this issue are documented in the KM proof sets but individual survivors outside institutional holdings are rarely traced.
