正面铭文 Gutschein über 25 Pfennige
Gemeinde Wittgensdorf
Wittgensdorf Bez. Chemnitz
d. 1. Juli 1921
Der Gemeindevorstand
背面描述 The reverse carries a warm ochre and green-tinted vignette within a decorative printed border of stylized foliate ornament with yellow ribbon accents. The central scene depicts a procession of six figures — women and children in regional folk costume — walking in a line against a background of industrial chimneys and factory buildings, evoking the textile and manufacturing character of the Chemnitz district. A row of small heraldic shields and industry vignettes runs along the lower margin, each labelled with a local trade: 'Appolda', 'Weberei', 'Strumpferei', 'Spinnerei', 'Landwirtschaft', and 'Weberei', with the denomination '25 Pf.' repeated in circular cartouches at lower left and right.

备注

Wittgensdorf is a small textile-industry village that was administratively separate from Chemnitz in 1921 — it wasn't incorporated into the city until 1934. Like hundreds of German municipalities that year, it resorted to issuing its own Kleingeldersatz because the Reichsbank simply could not produce low-denomination coinage fast enough to keep pace with the accelerating inflation that followed the war. The Thüringische Verlagsanstalt in Jena was a prolific producer of such local emergency currency, turning out notgeld for municipalities across Saxony and Thuringia on relatively short print runs.

The 25 Pfennige denomination was among the most common targets for notgeld issues — small enough to substitute for missing coins, large enough to justify the printing cost.
