| Description de l’avers | The face is arranged in three horizontal registers within an orange-yellow border frame: the uppermost carries a four-line German verse in bold blue letterpress on a white ribbon banner; the central black band bears the denomination numeral '25' in large red figures flanking the city arms — a crowned lion above a crenellated wall — set within a gilded oval cartouche. The lower register contains the issuer inscription 'NOTGELD DER STADT ZEULENRODA', a validity clause, the date '1. 11. 21.', the manuscript signature of the Bürgermeister, and the printer's imprint in small letterpress type at the foot. |

Zeulenroda's 1921 Notgeld issue belongs to the wave of municipally commissioned emergency currency that flooded Thuringia and Saxony during the acute coin shortage of 1921. The Stadt commissioned Otto Henning A.G. in nearby Greiz — a common arrangement among small Thuringian towns that lacked access to major printing houses but had capable regional firms within a few kilometers.
The "Townscape Series" designation reflects the collector-oriented marketing that had by 1921 become inseparable from municipal Notgeld production. Many of these issues were printed in quantities far exceeding any genuine circulating need, sold directly to dealers and hobbyists rather than spent at the butcher's counter.
