Wanzleben was an agricultural Kreis southwest of Magdeburg, and like hundreds of German administrative districts in 1918, its committee issued notgeld not as a matter of monetary policy but of practical necessity — the Reichsbank had effectively stopped supplying small-denomination coin as the war consumed metal. The Kreisausschuss had the legal standing to issue emergency money at the district level, which is why this note carries committee authority rather than a municipal stamp.

Faber of Magdeburg handled notgeld printing for numerous Saxony-region issuers that year, working under considerable production pressure as demand surged across the region simultaneously.
