Holzminden, a small town on the Weser River in Lower Saxony, issued this Notgeld during the hyperinflationary spiral of 1922, when municipal and commercial authorities across Germany were printing their own fractional currency to compensate for the chronic shortage of small-denomination Reichsbank notes in everyday circulation.
