Weißensee is a small Thuringian town, and this 25 Pfennig piece is a product of the notgeld wave that swept German municipalities in 1921 as coin shortages made ordinary small transactions genuinely difficult. Two printers contributed to the series — Alfred Hanf in Erfurt and C. G. Naumann in Leipzig — an unusual split-production arrangement that occasionally produces minor typographic variations between otherwise identical-looking pieces. Cardboard construction was common for low-denomination notgeld of this period, but it makes survival in collectible condition less predictable than paper issues of comparable age.
