Eickel was a small coal-mining town in the Ruhr, absorbed into Wanne-Eickel in 1926 and eventually swallowed by Herne in 1975 — a place that no longer exists administratively. Its 1921 Notgeld issue belongs to the vast wave of municipal emergency money printed across Germany as chronic small-coin shortages followed the First World War's economic wreckage. Fr. Siepmann in Essen was a workhorse printer for Ruhr-area Notgeld series, producing issues for numerous neighboring communes in the same period.

The designer credit "Goldscol" remains difficult to trace — likely a local commercial artist rather than a named engraver with a documented body of work.
