| 备注 |
Schmiedefeld am Rennsteig is a small village in the Thuringian Forest, and this note belongs to the vast wave of municipal Kleingeldersatz issued across Germany in 1921 as postwar inflation gnawed through the coin supply. Thousands of German towns and districts printed their own small-denomination paper — Notgeld in the strictest sense — to cover the gap left by hoarded or melted coinage.
Graphische Werkstätten G.m.b.H. in Ilmenau printed for numerous Thuringian municipalities during this period, making them one of the more prolific regional producers of the type. Ilmenau sits roughly ten kilometers from Schmiedefeld, an unusually short supply chain for Notgeld production.
