| Descrizione del dritto | The face is dominated by a dense red crosshatch guilloche underprint over which the denomination is set in large Fraktur script reading 'Fünfundzwanzig Pfennige', flanked by ornate dark-brown scrollwork corner vignettes. The text body states payability at the Stadthauptkasse der Stadt Aschersleben, the validity date of 31 März 1922, and the issue date of Aschersleben, den 5. März 1920, followed by the legend 'DER MAGISTRAT' above two manuscript signatures and a circular municipal seal at lower right. A note at the foot reads 'Diese dritte Serie ist in fünf Farben erschienen', indicating this third series was issued in five colour variants. |

Aschersleben's 1920 notgeld issue belongs to the vast wave of municipal emergency money that flooded Germany after the Reichsbank failed to supply sufficient small-denomination coinage. Coin hoarding and metal shortages during and after the First World War had effectively stripped low-value specie from everyday commerce, forcing hundreds of cities to print their own stopgap currency. Aschersleben, a mid-sized industrial town in Saxony-Anhalt, was among thousands that turned to local printers rather than wait for central relief.
Buhe handled the presswork — a regional printer, not one of the major notgeld producers of the period.
