Denomination numerals "25 Pfg." in bold blackletter appear in each of the four corners. The series designation "Serie IV" is inscribed in italic script at the top centre. |

Lüben's 1919 Notgeld issue belongs to the first wave of municipal emergency currency that flooded Silesia immediately after the Armistice, when the Reichsbank simply could not supply adequate small-denomination coin to a region already destabilized by demobilization and supply shortages. L. Fernbach in Bunzlau was a logical choice — a local commercial printer close enough to handle fast turnaround without the delays of going to Leipzig or Berlin.
Bunzlau itself was only about 30 kilometers from Lüben, which kept logistics manageable during a period when nothing about logistics was reliable.
