25 Pesos Ibero-American Series - Colon Theater

The Colón opened in 1908 after nearly two decades of construction disputes, contractor collapses, and a site change that required demolishing an existing building. At the time of its inauguration it was considered among the five largest opera houses in the world by stage volume. This coin was issued as part of the broader Ibero-American series, a joint commemorative program coordinated across Latin American and Iberian mints beginning in the early 1990s, with each participating country selecting a cultural monument of national significance.

Argentina's mint chose the Colón the same year the theater closed for a major structural restoration — work that would ultimately stretch past a decade.
