Saint Helena's 2013 commemorative issues occupy an odd corner of numismatic output — the island's population of roughly 4,500 gives it no domestic coin-using public to speak of, and production is driven entirely by the collector market. This piece was struck by the Pobjoy Mint, which has held the Saint Helena contract for decades and is responsible for the bulk of the island's modern commemorative output.
Gold-plated copper-nickel is a format Pobjoy leaned into heavily during this period, threading the needle between visual appeal and a price point accessible to non-bullion collectors.
