| 背面描述 | The central device features two heraldic shields displayed side by side: at left, the circular badge of HRH The Prince of Wales surmounted by a coronet and encircled by the Garter motto, and at right, the lozenge-shaped armorial bearings of Lady Diana Spencer, wreathed in foliage and tied with a ribbon above. Two birds in flight appear above the shields, and a green turtle is depicted in the lower field, referencing Ascension Island's fauna. The date 1981 appears in the lower centre between the shields and the turtle. The circumferential legend WEDDING OF HRH THE PRINCE OF WALES AND LADY DIANA SPENCER runs around the full periphery of the deeply mirrored proof field. |

Ascension Island had no permanent civilian population and no real monetary economy in 1981 — it functioned essentially as a British military and communications outpost in the South Atlantic. Coins issued under its authority were never intended for circulation and exist purely as collector vehicles, a practice the Crown Agents facilitated aggressively for dependent territories throughout the 1970s and 1980s.
The Charles and Diana wedding issue appeared across dozens of such territories simultaneously, often sharing identical specifications and sometimes identical dies.
