Obverse description This side represents the host coin's obverse: a draped bust of Carlos II of Spain facing right, with the legend partially visible around the periphery. A British countermark bearing the value '25' was applied to authorize the coin for circulation in the Ionian Islands. The legend reads CAROLVS II D G REX HISP, identifying the original issuer as Charles II, King of Spain, by the grace of God. The portrait displays the characteristic draped and armored style typical of late 17th-century Spanish royal coinage. Wear and the applied countermark partially obscure elements of the original design.
