Obverse description Right-facing crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, modelled by Cecil Thomas, wearing the George IV State Diadem. The queen's hair is elaborately dressed and the bust is draped. The circumferential legend reads QUEEN ELIZABETH THE SECOND, separated by the rim's milled border of beads. The portrait is rendered in a refined, sculptural style characteristic of the first definitive portrait used on Commonwealth coinage.
