Haiti's "Haitian Art" series was commissioned under François Duvalier as part of a broader effort to project cultural legitimacy abroad while his regime tightened its grip internally. The coins were produced for the foreign collector market rather than domestic circulation — a distinction that explains both the fine silver specification and the impractical 60mm format. Few ever passed through Haitian hands in trade.
The KM#67.1 and 67.2 variants differ in edge treatment, a detail that matters more to registry collectors than the broader market has historically acknowledged.
