Liberia's output of small-format gold issues in the early 2000s was prolific and commercially driven — produced for the collector market, not circulation, often under contract with European minting houses. Amundsen reached the South Pole on December 14, 1911, beating Scott's party by 33 days, a margin achieved largely through superior sled dog management and depot placement strategy.
