| Obverse description | The Liberian coat of arms is centrally depicted in the field, featuring a sailing ship, a palm tree, a dove, a rising sun, crossed implements, and a scroll bearing the national motto, all enclosed within a shield surmounted by a crest. The date 2001 is split across the field, flanking the shield on either side. The legend REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA arcs along the upper periphery, while the motto THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE appears on a ribbon within the arms. A second inscription, REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA, runs along the lower rim, framed by a beaded border. |

Liberia's output of small-format gold issues in the early 2000s was prolific and commercially driven — produced for the collector market, not circulation, often under contract with European minting houses. Amundsen reached the South Pole on December 14, 1911, beating Scott's party by 33 days, a margin achieved largely through superior sled dog management and depot placement strategy.
