| Obverse description | Uncrowned, bare-headed effigy of King George VI facing left, modelled by Thomas Humphrey Paget, whose initials 'HP' appear below the truncation of the neck. The portrait is rendered in high relief with finely detailed hair. The surrounding legend reads GEORGIVS VI DEI GRATIA REX, meaning 'George VI, King by the Grace of God', omitting the earlier titles IND:IMP: (Emperor of India) that appeared on pre-1948 issues. A continuous reeded border frames the obverse field. |
