Issued to mark the bicentennial of the War of 1812, this colored circulation-quality quarter was part of a broader Royal Canadian Mint campaign releasing multiple 25-cent pieces commemorating the conflict throughout 2012 and 2013. Brock died at the Battle of Queenston Heights in October 1812, less than four months into the war, shot during the British and Indigenous repulse of an American crossing of the Niagara River.
The color application was added at the mint before release — an unusual step for a coin intended for general circulation rather than collector packaging.
