Planoles is a small mountain village in the Ripollès comarca of Catalonia, and like hundreds of other Catalan municipalities during the Spanish Civil War, it issued its own emergency fractional currency when the Republic's small-denomination coinage vanished from circulation almost overnight in 1936. These local issues — collectively catalogued in the thousands — were produced under desperate conditions with whatever printing resources were at hand, typically a local press or even a rubber stamp on cut card.

Turró's cataloguing of this series remains the definitive reference for Republican municipal issues, covering emissions that most national catalogs ignore entirely.
