Algar de Palancia is a village in the Valencia region with a population that barely reached three hundred during the Civil War years. Like dozens of similarly small Valencian municipalities, its local council issued emergency fractional paper in 1937 to address the acute shortage of small coinage — Republican silver and copper had effectively vanished from circulation through hoarding and melting.
The Turró and Gari-Montserrat catalogues both document this 25 céntimos, but surviving examples are genuinely uncommon. Notes from pueblos of this size were printed in small runs, circulated in a closed local economy, and rarely left the village.
