Immediately below the perforation the word ESSAI is inscribed in Latin capitals, followed beneath by CENTIMES. The entire central composition is encircled by a broad band of dense arabesque foliate and floral interlace ornament, executed in the Moorish decorative tradition, filling the annular field to the rim. |
