Obverse description Central round hole surrounded by a wreath of interlaced olive and oak branches, framed above by the denomination '25 CENTIMES' in bold raised lettering and flanked on either side by the initials 'R' and 'F' (République Française) in large capital letters. The date '1913' appears in the lower field, with the word 'ESSAI' inscribed to the lower left and the engraver's signature 'H. GUIS' to the lower right. A beaded inner border runs concentrically around the hole, while a finely milled outer border frames the entire design. The composition and lettering reflect the Art Nouveau-influenced typological trials proposed for French holed coinage of the early Third Republic.
