Obverse description Left-facing bust effigy of José Gervasio Artigas, national hero and founding father of Uruguay, rendered in high relief within the central field. The circular legend REPÚBLICA ORIENTAL DEL URUGUAY arcs around the upper periphery, with the name ARTIGAS appearing below the portrait and the date 1960 in the lower exergual area. The design is framed by a beaded border and executed in a refined neoclassical style consistent with the work of engraver Thomas Humphrey Paget.

Reverse description The national coat of arms of Uruguay occupies the central field, depicted as an oval quartered shield bearing the Scales of Justice, a fortified hill, an ox, and a horse, surmounted by a radiant Sun of May. The shield is flanked by two olive branches tied at the base, and surrounded by nineteen five-pointed stars arranged in a ring around the periphery, referencing the departments of Uruguay. The denomination 25 appears prominently below the arms in large numerals, with CENTÉSIMOS inscribed beneath in a bold upright legend. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded border.
