| Obverse description | Left-facing bust effigy of José Gervasio Artigas, national hero and founding father of Uruguay, rendered in high relief within the central field. The circular legend REPÚBLICA ORIENTAL DEL URUGUAY arcs around the upper periphery, with the name ARTIGAS appearing below the portrait and the date 1960 in the lower exergual area. The design is framed by a beaded border and executed in a refined neoclassical style consistent with the work of engraver Thomas Humphrey Paget. |
