| Beschrijving voorzijde | The simplified Nicaraguan national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting an equilateral triangle enclosing five volcanoes rising from the sea beneath a radiant sun and rainbow. A fine beaded border frames the design. The circumferential legend reads REPÚBLICA DE NICARAGUA in the upper arc and AMÉRICA CENTRAL in the lower arc, separated by small decorative stops. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
Nicaragua's 2007 coinage reform replaced the older nickel-clad steel issues as part of a broader monetary stabilization effort following years of córdoba devaluations that had rendered smaller denominations nearly worthless in practice. Brass-plated steel was chosen over solid alloy primarily on cost grounds, a common move among Central American issuers during the commodity price spike of the mid-2000s.
The plating on circulated examples tends to wear unevenly at the high points, a known characteristic of the type rather than a grading anomaly.
