| Obverse description | Draped bust of Louis XIV facing right, with long flowing wig, presented in the late baroque style typical of his reign. A small five-pointed star appears at the base of the effigy. The circumferential Latin legend commences at approximately the 7 o'clock position and reads clockwise around the field. The portrait is rendered in high relief with considerable detail in the lace cravat and periwig curls. |

| Reverse description | A crowned shield of France — bearing the three fleurs-de-lis of the royal arms — occupies the center of the reverse, flanked on either side by the date in two parts. The mint mark appears in the exergue beneath the shield, identifying the workshop of issue. The circumferential Latin legend identifying the coin as a new silver piece of Strasbourg (Argentinensis) surrounds the central device. |
