The surrounding legend reads JOSEPHUS I D. G. PORT. ET ALG. REX. A rectangular countermark bearing the numeral '22' surmounted by a crown, with a small eagle below, has been applied at the lower center of the bust, indicating the coin's revaluation to 22 Livres for circulation in Martinique. The date 1769 appears in the exergue below the bust, identifying the host coin's original year of issue. |

| Descrizione del rovescio | The crowned Portuguese royal coat of arms displayed prominently in the central field, comprising a complex escutcheon featuring the five quinas of Portugal arranged in a cross pattern, surrounded by ornate baroque scrollwork and flanked by laurel and palm branches. The shield is surmounted by an elaborate royal crown. The rim is decorated with a fine beaded border. No legend appears on the reverse, the design being entirely dominated by the armorial composition typical of Portuguese gold coinage of the mid-eighteenth century. |
