| 表面の説明 | Bare-headed bust of the river-god Strymon facing right, rendered in a naturalistic Hellenistic style with visible drapery at the shoulder. The portrait displays characteristic features of a mature male deity, with the head slightly inclined. The flan is irregular and the surface shows patination consistent with ancient bronze coinage. |

This bronze was struck under Perseus, the last king of Macedonia, during the years leading to the catastrophic defeat at Pydna in 168 BC — the battle that ended the Antigonid dynasty and resulted in Perseus being paraded through Rome in Aemilius Paullus's triumph. The coin type associating Perseus with his father Philip V was a deliberate dynastic statement issued during a reign consumed by the gathering confrontation with Rome.
Perseus died in Roman custody at Alba Fucens, probably around 166 BC.
