Part of Oman's wildlife conservation series issued through the 1980s, this coin commemorates the Verreaux's Eagle, a raptor whose range is almost entirely confined to rocky, mountainous terrain in eastern and southern Africa — making its appearance on an Omani coin geographically curious. The species does not occur in Arabia, and the choice likely reflects the broader international conservation agenda the Central Bank was signaling rather than any native fauna connection.
