| 正面描述 | The obverse features the denomination numeral '2.5' in large Arabic-Indic figures prominently at the centre of the field. The circular legend in Arabic script reads 'People's Democratic Republic of Yemen' along the upper periphery. The Hijri year 1393 appears at the lower right and the Gregorian year 1973 at the lower left, flanking the word 'Fils' inscribed at the base. The design is entirely typographic, with no pictorial motif, relying on bold lettering against a plain field. |

The People's Democratic Republic of Yemen — the only Marxist Arab state — introduced this aluminum fractional coinage shortly after the 1967 British withdrawal from Aden. The 2½ fils denomination is an awkward holdover from the pre-decimal South Arabian currency system, retained briefly while the new government worked toward a fully decimalized structure. Aluminum was the practical choice for a cash-strapped revolutionary government with no domestic metal industry.
