The design is rendered in high relief with crisp, detailed rigging and hull elements characteristic of Portuguese numismatic art of this period. |

Six six-pointed stars are symmetrically arranged around the shield in the field. The designer's and engraver's credits — MARTINS BARATA DEL. and M. NORTE SCULP. — appear along the left and right inner margins respectively. |
