Reverse description A perched American bald eagle is depicted in bold relief at center, wings slightly raised and head turned sharply to the left in an alert posture, its talons gripping a decorative horizontal tablet or fasces-like perch bearing the motto E·PLURIBUS·UNUM in incuse letters within a raised cartouche. Below the perch, a stylized columnar support descends toward the lower field, where the denomination 2 1/2 DOL· is inscribed in two elements flanking the column base. The peripheral legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA curves along the upper rim, completing the design in a restrained and classically inspired composition.
