| 裏面の説明 | The reverse presents a finely modeled bust of Kazimierz I Odnowiciel (Casimir I the Restorer), Duke of Poland from 1039 to 1058, depicted in three-quarter view facing slightly left. He is shown wearing a crown and a richly detailed royal mantle with decorative circular ornamentation, rendered in a bold sculptural relief. The legend KAZIMIERZ I ODNOWICIEL 1039-1058 arcs along the upper periphery in Latin script. The word PRÓBA, denoting trial or pattern status, appears vertically to the right of the effigy in the field. The overall design is the work of engraver Ewa Olszewska-Borys and exemplifies the commemorative medallic style of Polish gold coinage of the era. |

Issued as part of a prestige series commemorating Polish rulers, this trial strike precedes the circulation issue and was produced by the Mennica Państwowa (the Polish State Mint in Warsaw) during a particularly fraught period for the country — just months before the Solidarity strikes at Gdańsk that would reshape Polish political life entirely. Kazimierz I, known as "the Restorer," rebuilt the Polish state after the catastrophic pagan uprising of the 1030s and the subsequent Bohemian invasion under Břetislav I that left Gniezno and Poznań devastated and looted.
The ParM and Fischer references both catalog this as variant "b," indicating a distinct die or finish from the primary trial piece.
