In 1977, Poland was preparing a 2000-złoty gold coin honoring Chopin — part of a broader hard-currency export series the communist government used to generate Western foreign exchange. Trial strikes in copper were produced at Mennica Polska to test die alignment, relief, and edge treatment before committing to precious metal production. These copper proofings were never released commercially and exist in tiny numbers, most retained within the mint's own reference holdings or distributed to a narrow circle of approving officials.
