Reverse description The reverse presents a left-facing portrait bust of the renowned Polish composer Fryderyk Chopin, modeled in a sculptural, medallic style with fine surface texture suggesting a romantic artistic treatment. The portrait is unadorned and occupies the central field in strong relief. The circular legend FRYDERYK CHOPIN arcs along the upper periphery, flanked by bullet points, while the composer's birth and death years 1810 - 1849 appear along the lower periphery. The word PRÓBA, denoting trial or pattern status, is inscribed vertically to the left of the portrait in the field.

Additional information

In 1977, Poland was preparing a 2000-złoty gold coin honoring Chopin — part of a broader hard-currency export series the communist government used to generate Western foreign exchange. Trial strikes in copper were produced at Mennica Polska to test die alignment, relief, and edge treatment before committing to precious metal production. These copper proofings were never released commercially and exist in tiny numbers, most retained within the mint's own reference holdings or distributed to a narrow circle of approving officials.

The Fischer and ParM references catalogue several die variants from this trial sequence, distinguished by suffix letters.
