A broad outer circular border of pearled beading frames the entire composition, with the legend 'VASUDHARA' arched along the upper rim and 'MANDALA' along the lower rim in Latin capital letters. Vasudhara, the bodhisattva of abundance in Vajrayana Buddhism, has been a recurring subject in Mongolian devotional art since at least the 13th century, when Tibetan Buddhist influence became embedded in the region under the Mongol Empire. The mandala format used here follows strict iconographic conventions codified in Sanskrit tantric texts — proportions and deity placement are not artistic choices but prescribed ritual geometry.
Mongolia has leaned heavily on Buddhist iconography for its bullion and commemorative programs since the 1990s, partly as a deliberate cultural reassertion following seven decades of Soviet-imposed atheism, during which public religious practice was suppressed and hundreds of monasteries destroyed.
